Michigan Man Busted for Stealing Father’s Corpse from Cemetery

Corpse Discovery

Home where cops found corpse

Detroit, Michigan

Police recently arrested a man for stealing his father’s corpse from a cemetery. Authorities say that   Clarence Bright’s corpse was taken from the cemetery just prior to burial.

The corpse was eventually located in the basement of a home, which happens to belong to Bright’s 48-year-old son.

Investigators put the pieces together when they discovered the son, along with another man, carrying an empty casket inside a van at a gas station.

Police have not yet provided a motive for stealing the corpse.

Bright’s burial was supposed to take place on a Saturday at Gethsemane Cemetery on the east side of Detroit. However, soggy conditions following rain created a delay. So, the casket containing the 93-year-old’s body was placed near a chapel or a mausoleum on cemetery grounds and remained there through the following Monday morning when it was reported stolen, said Leon Jones, a mortician’s assistant at Swanson Funeral Home, which handled Bright’s funeral.

“This is a very, very bizarre situation,” Jones said.

Police received a tip that a white van had been seen at the cemetery around the time the body was taken, which turned out to be the van officers discovered at the gas station.

Once the van was discovered, it only took police about an hour to sniff out the corpse, in the basement just a few blocks away.

“Nothing seems to be wrong with the body,” Day told reporters. “Hopefully, the family can now get the body back and give it a proper burial.”

Police declined to release the names of Bright’s son or the 38-year-old man who was with him. They had not been charged and the theft remained under investigation.

Funeral Home Running Without Electricity, Bones on the Roof and Decomposing Corpses Inside

Chicago, Illinois

Family members and police were recently gathered outside of Carter Funeral Chapel in Chicago. This time, however, they were not on-hand to attend a funeral. Instead, they were demanding to know what has happened to their relatives remains after police found the funeral home in a ‘state of disarray’.

Police first discovered deeply disturbing evidence outside of the funeral home. Bones were found on the roof and it was discovered that this particular funeral home had no working electricity. The funeral home had previously been shut-down after it was discovered that frozen water bottles were being used to preserve corpses.

Police said they found a back door off its hinges, confirmed no power or heating inside the building and corpses in ‘various states of preparation’ (otherwise meaning decomposed).

Police Say Russian Man Found Living With Female Corpses

Police in Russia have detained a man after discovering that he had at least 20 dressed-up female corpses hidden in his apartment.

According to authorities, historian Anatoly Moskvin, 45, would sneak into cemeteries during the dark of night to dig up the corpses, then dress them up in his apartment.

Photos taken by the tabloid publication lifenews.ru indicate that Moskvin clothed the corpses, all belonging to women who died between the ages of 15 to 25, in women’s clothes to look almost doll-like.

Some sources report that as many as 26 corpses were found in Moskvin’s residence.

Upon Arrival Officers met with the complainant, Diocese Director of Facilities Tammy Jo Basten, who stated she wanted to report a theft of a guitar. Tammy advised officers that a deceased person, Randall Jourdan, had been placed in his casket with his guitar and the casket had been placed into a burial chamber, and the guitar was later discovered missing.

Update: Police Charge Twin Sons Found Living With Mother’s Corpse

Houston, Texas

In an earlier post, we reported on a story involving two men found living with their mother’s corpse. Before questioning the twin sons, police thought the woman may have died from natural causes. However, after further questions, charges have been filed.

The twin brothers who were living with their mother’s decomposing corpse went before a judge on Wednesday morning. Police have charged the two men with murder.

Investigators described walking into the men’s house, saying it was like stepping into a horror movie.

Brothers Edwin and Edward Berndt looked scared and disheveled when they went before the judge.

Police say the brothers told them their mom had fallen down in January while they were watching the championship college football game. Homicide investigators say the men didn’t give their mother food, water, or medical assistance as she lay there dying.

Police also say the smell of the rotting flesh was “overpowering.”

Prosecutors and their defense attorney agree their behavior raises some serious questions about their mental health.

“It’s too early to tell,” said prosecutor Samantha Knecht. “Obviously we’re going to want them to do some type of mental evaluation, but we’re too early in the game to make any types of calls on that.”

Bangladeshi Man Survives Nine Days in Shipping Container With Corpse

A Bangladeshi man trapped for nine days in a shipping container was recovering in a Singapore hospital after being found with a co-worker’s corpse, police and media reports said Wednesday.

Chittagong, Bangladesh port worker Din Islam, 30, was discovered on Sunday inside the container at Singapore’s bustling Pasir Panjang Terminal, next to another man who was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

“Investigations indicate that both men are believed to be port workers from Bangladesh who were trapped inside the container by accident while they were taking a rest,” a Singapore police spokesman said.

Popular Singapore tabloid The New Paper said Din and the decomposing body of the fellow worker, whom he identified as Alamgir, were discovered after a trailer driver heard the survivor banging on the walls of the container.

The two had entered the container to take a nap after having dinner and a smoke midway through their 12-hour night shift on April 1, the daily said.

“Then we just slept and we didn’t know that the container had been picked up and transported onto the ship. By the time we woke up, we were probably already on the ship,” Din was quoted by the New Paper as saying on his hospital bed.

He said his colleague, whom he estimated to be 40 years old, collapsed and died after a few days in the container, with nothing but a pack of cigarettes between them.
