Woman Dies After Waking at Own Funeral

A Russian woman woke up at her own funeral after being wrongly declared dead – and minutes later suffered a fatal heart attack.

Fagilyu Mukhametzyanov, 49, started screaming after she awoke to the sounds of mourners praying as they filed past her coffin, The Daily Mail reports.

Husband Fagili Mukhametzyanov said his wife was immediately rushed back to hospital.

“But she only lived for another 12 minutes in intensive care before she died again, this time for good,” he was quoted as saying in The Daily Mail.

Mr Mukhametzyanov said he was originally told his wife was dead after she suffered a heart attack and collapsed at home.

“She wasn’t dead when they said she was and they could have saved her,” he reportedly said.

“I am very angry and want answers.”

A hospital spokesperson said the matter was being investigated.

Replacement For Funeral Consumer Advocate R. Brian Burkhardt?

We recently learned of the death of funeral consumer advocate R. Brian Burkhardt. His death has left a void in the area of funeral consumer education and news. Well, as it turns out, that void has been filled rather quickly.

Mark DeSteffan, who has created a bit of controversy with his on-going funeral business memoir The Business of Death, has turned his attention to the consumers. His new blog, Funeral Consumer Advocate, is already examining casket choices and sales tactics of funeral directors. I will be curious to see if he raises as many eyebrows with his latest endeavor.

Bangladeshi Man Survives Nine Days in Shipping Container With Corpse

A Bangladeshi man trapped for nine days in a shipping container was recovering in a Singapore hospital after being found with a co-worker’s corpse, police and media reports said Wednesday.

Chittagong, Bangladesh port worker Din Islam, 30, was discovered on Sunday inside the container at Singapore’s bustling Pasir Panjang Terminal, next to another man who was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

“Investigations indicate that both men are believed to be port workers from Bangladesh who were trapped inside the container by accident while they were taking a rest,” a Singapore police spokesman said.

Popular Singapore tabloid The New Paper said Din and the decomposing body of the fellow worker, whom he identified as Alamgir, were discovered after a trailer driver heard the survivor banging on the walls of the container.

The two had entered the container to take a nap after having dinner and a smoke midway through their 12-hour night shift on April 1, the daily said.

“Then we just slept and we didn’t know that the container had been picked up and transported onto the ship. By the time we woke up, we were probably already on the ship,” Din was quoted by the New Paper as saying on his hospital bed.

He said his colleague, whom he estimated to be 40 years old, collapsed and died after a few days in the container, with nothing but a pack of cigarettes between them.
